Conditions for successful extended inflation.

چکیده
We investigate, in a model-independent way, the conditions required to obtain a satisfactory model of extended in ation in which in ation is brought to an end by a rst-order phase transition. The constraints are that the correct present strength of the gravitational coupling is obtained, that the present theory of gravity is satisfactorily close to general relativity, that the perturbation spectra from in ation are compatible with large scale structure observations and that the bubble spectrum produced at the phase transition doesn't con ict with the observed level of microwave background anisotropies. We demonstrate that these constraints can be summarized in terms of the behaviour in the conformally related Einstein frame, and can be compactly illustrated graphically. We con rm the failure of existing models including the original extended in ation model, and construct models, albeit rather contrived ones, which satisfy all existing constraints.

Extended Inflation from Strings ∗
We study the possibility of extended inflation in the effective theory of gravity from strings compactified to four dimensions and find that it strongly depends on the mechanism of supersymmetry breaking. We consider a general class of string–inspired models which are good candidates for successful extended inflation. In particular, the ω– problem of ordinary extended inflation is automatically...
متن کاملConstraints in the context of induced-gravity inflation.
Constraints on the required flatness of the scalar potential V (φ) for a cousin-model to extended inflation are studied. It is shown that, unlike earlier results, Induced-gravity Inflation can lead to successful inflation with a very simple lagrangian and λ ∼ 10 −6 , rather than 10 −15 as previously reported. A second order phase transition further enables this model to escape the 'big bubble' ...
متن کاملInitial Conditions for Supersymmetric Inflation
We perform a numerical investigation of the fields evolution in the supersymmetric inflationary model based on radiative corrections. Supergravity corrections are also included. We find that, out of all the examined initial data, only about 10% give an adequate amount of inflation and can be considered as ”natural”. Moreover, these successful initial conditions appear scattered and more or less...
متن کاملInflationary Universe in Kaluza-klein Theories
We describe extended inflation and its typical problems. We then briefly review essential features of Kaluza-Klein theory, and show that it leads to a scenario of inflationary cosmology in four dimensions. The problem of stable compactification of extra spatial dimensions is discussed. The requirements for successful exetended inflation lead to constraints on the parameters of higher dimensiona...
متن کاملBaryogenesis, Inflation and Superstrings
We study the conditions for successful Affleck–Dine baryogenesis in generic inflation and supergravity scenarios, finding powerful restrictions on them. String-based SUGRA models are especially interesting since they are surprisingly suitable for the implementation not only of AD baryogenesis but also inflation itself, presenting a nice solution to the η–problem.
متن کاملInflection-point Higgs Inflation
Inflection-point inflation is an interesting possibility to realize a successful slow-roll inflation when inflation is driven by a single scalar field with its initial value below the Planck mass (φI . MP l). In order for a renormalization group (RG) improved effective λφ4 potential to develop an inflection-point, the quartic coupling λ(φ) must exhibit a minimum with an almost vanishing value i...
